We were pleased to install a dry ridge roofing system on a bungalow in Oswestry this month. As experienced roofers, we are well versed in traditional roofing methods. However, we are always keen to try something new.

A bungalow in Oswestry required a new roof therefore, in this instance, we decided to install a new roofing system. We stripped off all old materials including ridge tiles, tiles, batons, felt, leadwork, and verge cement.

How the Dry Ridge System Works

In this system, felt, tiles and batons are replaced as normal. However, the verges and ridge tiles do not require any mortar at all and are all mechanically fixed to the roof requiring no sand or cement at all.

Benefits of Installing a Dry Ridge Roofing System

Over the years sand and cement in roof verge or holding ridge tiles in place will gradually deteriorate. In contrast, a dry verge / dry ridge system will last for many years without maintenance.

The dry ridge system also is much more weatherproof and allows the loft space beneath to breathe by providing ventilation without letting water in. It is also extremely flexible because as a building expands and contracts with the ambient temperature, the system also expands and contracts.
