We are really pleased with the look of this EPDM Roof in Llangollen next to the river Dee. A local hotel asked us to cover some flat roofs in a sustainable way that was in keeping with the general appearance of the property.
What is EPDM?
EPDM is a rubber membrane that is watertight and has a long lifespan, which is the reason we use it wherever possible. It is most suitable for flat roofs, although you can also use EPDM on low pitched roofs. We use it frequently on shed roofs and garage roofs.
Preparation for EPDM Roof System
We began with preparation for installation of the EPDM roof at Llangollen. First we scrapped off the previous covering so we could make sure the surface was clear and flat. To do this we often install a plywood base on which to roll the membrane.
Installation of the Rubber Roof in Llangollen
Next we roll out the EPDM and ensure that there are no bubbles underneath. We use a water-based sealant to attach the rubber to the roof surface, however, for extra strength and security, we use a stronger contact adhesive for the edges.
As you can see from the pictures, we then secure the edges with trim, which completes the seal.
