It was time for a reroof in Wrexham at this property. There was much in need of replacement – soffits, fascias ridge tiles, battons, felt and the lead around the chimney was in poor shape too. But the tiles were in good condition. A few chips on the corners don’t stop the roof being watertight as long as they are in the right place. And no-one wants to throw away a resource which is still useful.
What is a reroof?
A reroof is when you remove everything from the roof, then replace new for old where necessary and reuse existing materials wherever possible. This is beneficial to both the customer and environment, because it means that it save on costs to the customer and it also uses less new materials.
Removal of Existing Roof Materials
In order to do a proper job, the first step is to remove all materials. As part of this we sort them into waste which will go to recycling or reuse.
Rebuild the Roof
Next we re-build the roof so that it will be like new. New felt and battons sit across existing roof trusses. Sitting above this are original slates. Care is taken so that slates lie over each other correctly to provide a watertight roof. New flaunching on the chimney ensures it is watertight for years to come and around the chimney new lead flashing that sits smoothly across the slates below means that the chimney is not a weak point.
Finally we add new ridge tiles. We find that the dry-ridge system is a much better way of stabilising the ridge and therefore the whole roof.
New Soffits and Fascias As Part of the Reroof
In addition to the above, new uPVC soffits and fascias together with brand new gutters make the roof one that will withstand multiple rainstorms in the future.
What is the Best Time of Year to Reroof?
If you were to do this as a DIY project we would recommend you wait for a dry weather forecast for sometime because at some point your whole roof will be open. As professional roofers we work around the weather. We can tarp a roof if any part is likely to be open overnight and our workers also work quickly towards completion.
