A semi-detached new roof may have a surprising number of challenges. Not least is matching new tiles to the other roof. Why is this important? A semi-detached building is constructed as if it has just one roof. However, ownership of the roof is normally between two parties. This means that whilst one owner may want to upgrade the roof, the other owner may not wish to.
When Semi-Detached Properties are Older
Problems arise on older properties where you are not able to source or do not want to use tiles similar to the old ones. Where the properties join and the tiles don’t match, you might end up with a break in the roof surface and water ingress into both properties.
Creating a Join Between The New Roof and Neighbouring Roof
As you can see from the photograph, we remove tiles from the property we are renovating. We then carefully lift and cut to fit tiles from the neighbour’s property.
Next, we create an invisible gully between the two roofs so that no water will enter either building. We then place and replace tiles above the gully. This provides a waterproof join between both ownerships.
So if you are in a semi-detached property and thinking of having a new roof, we assure you that no damage will occur to your neighbour’s roof. We are always considerate of those adjacent to you.
